Buying an Electric Tiller – the Pro´s and Con´s

Buying an Electric Tiller

Many people have trouble deciding what sort of garden tiller to buy. They can either choose between a gas powered tiller or an electric tiller, but are not always sure which will be best for them and their gardening needs.

This article is written for those people who are thinking about an electric garden tiller, but are still undecided.

These tillers have become very popular over the last couple of years, and in many ways it’s easy to see why. There is far less hassle to owning and using an electric powered tiller than its gas powered equivalent, and for many people this is the deciding factor.

So let´s take a look at some of the benefits of owning one of these tillers.

Normally this sort of machine will be far quieter to operate than a gas engined tiller. It will also be much lighter. The Sun Joe TJ600E weighs as little as 17 pounds, so is both easy to operate and carry.

Operating an electric garden tiller is so easy, anyone can do it. You simply plug it in, squeeze the throttle and away you go. Being electric eliminates the need for having a supply of gas on hand, and filling it up each time you need to use it.

There is no time and energy wasted pulling on a starter cord trying to get the engine to fire up either. And no yearly tune-up needed.

But perhaps more important, is the fact that there are no emissions from these electric motors. Now that a few states have introduced noise and emission regulations could mean a gas powered tiller would no longer be allowed. As time goes on I dare say more and more states will introduce the same regulations.

Yet one concern that many potential buyers have is whether or not an electric tiller will have the power that a gas engined tiller has. Machines such as the Troy-Bilt TB154E do, in fact one purchaser was “amazed at its power”. Most of the electric garden tillers reviewed on this site produce enough power to compete with their gas powered equivalent.

The tilling width of these electric tillers come in differing sizes starting with the Mantis 7250-15-02 which can till to a width of nine inches. The Troy-Bilt tiller can be adjusted from six inches up to 10-1/4 inches, while the Sun Joe can till to an incredible width of 14 inches. So, as you can see, you will have no problem finding an electric tiller to suit the needs of your backyard plot.

Most electric tillers are less expensive than gas powered tillers, although this does depend on which particular make you look at.

So, in summing up.

The Pro´s of electric tillers

The electric motor is very quiet to operate, it also mean it is very lightweight making it easier to handle and carry.
No need to mess about each time filling it with gas, and trying to start it. Simply plug it in and you are ready to go. Also therefore no emissions.

Produces enough power to handle any job its gas powered equivalent can.

Comes in enough different sizes to suit your garden plot.

The Con´s of electric tillers

Basically, there is only a couple of cons. You need to have a power supply near where you want to work, or have a long extension cable.

There is always the need to make sure you do not run over the cable or get tangled up in it yourself when you use an electric tiller.

This is some great information. I have been looking at buying an electric tiller because I don´t want the bother of gas so this was very useful.
Thanks
